Emotional, Verbal And Psychological Abuse Is Now Criminal Offence. DAILY LAW TIPS (Tip 406) by Onyekachi Umah, Esq., LLM. ACIArb(UK)

It is now an offence to cause emotional, verbal and psychological abuse on another person. It is considered as violence irrespective of sex of offender and victim.
The crime is punishable with imprisonment for not more than 1 year or and fine of not more than #200,000.00.

Also note that, it is an offence to merely attempt to commit this offence or to incite or aid another in the commission of this offence. Such is also punishable with imprisonment for not more than 6 months and or fine of not more than #100,000.00, respectively.

Kindly note that the law creating the above offences is operational in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Similar laws are now operational in Anambra State, Ebonyi State and Oyo State. Soon, more States will enact similar laws as we encourage states to do so and condemn violence.
